Kendriya Vidyalaya, No 1 Pondicherry is situated amidst sylvan surroundings inside Jawaharlal Institute of Post Medical Education & Research (JIPMER). This Vidyalaya comes under IHL Category of KVs. The Vidyalaya is under the aegis of JIPMER and the Management Committee is Chaired by the Director JIPMER.
The Vidyalaya was started in the year 1968. The Vidyalaya has classes I to XII with an enrollment of 2650 students with Science and Commerce streams at the plus two levels. The Vidyalaya participates in Games, sports and other activities organized locally and also at Inter Kendriya Vidyalaya level by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The activities include Mathematics Olympiad, Green Olympiad, National level Essay and Painting competitions, Youth Parliament, Adventure activities, Educational tours, Ek Bharat Sresht Bharat ( EBSB) , Scouting, NCC, NSS etc.
There are 2600 plus students and 95 dedicated staff members in the school. Both students and teachers aim high and work towards attaining excellence. Ethics and moral fabric of the student community are given as much importance as academic and co-curricular activities are.
The Vidyalaya begun with only two sections in each class from I to X in the year 1968. Later the number of classes grew by including the classes XI and XII with two streams – Science and Commerce stream. The number of sections increased to three in each class in the year 1997. Due to the enormous demand for admissions from the society the Vidyalaya started functioning in two shifts from 2013. Shift 1 timing is from 6.50 am to 12.25 pm and that of Shift 2 is 12.30 pm to 6.00pm
